April 2008 versammelten sich die Vertreter der 26 NATO-Mitgliedsstaaten in der rumänischen Hauptstadt Bukarest, um knapp 18 Monate nach dem letzten Gipfel in Riga erneut den Kurs der transatlantischen Allianz zu beraten. Im Folgenden sollen die Ergebnisse des Bukarester NATO-Gipfels im Kontext vorangegangener Gipfel und Geschehnisse verortet werden.
