This textbook presents the highly active research field of Creole studies with a focus on French-based Creoles. It explores their socio-historical roots and origins, Creole language structure (compared to French), sociolinguistics, and the current status of the Creole languages. Besides presenting an introduction to this fast-evolving field, the book offers insight into a 30-year history of research in Creole studies.
