How do we justly make sense of human rights today? To that end, directing our attention to merely their legal content or ethical claims is insufficient. It is necessary to take into account the dimension of the political: First, the moral requirement will be made concrete in the field of social practice and in people's historically attested experiences. Using the example of the French colonial war in Algeria, Daniel Bogner establishes how theory, practice, normativity, and history interrelate. The result is a new understanding of human rights, which overcomes the dead ends of purely historical and exclusively Geltung-theoretical perspectives.
