The author gives an overview of the principles, history and prevailing law of the energy sector of the European community. The depiction is restricted to the most important aspects with the analysis of the primary sources of community law (legal deeds, rulings and announcements). 


Dr. Jürgen Grunwald M.C.L. (Illinois) has been a Member of the European Commission's Legal Service for the last 25 years. At present he is serving as a Principal Legal Adviser. Since 1989 he has taught European Energy Law at the University of Saarbrücken (Europa-Institut), Germany.
