Witwen - Kulturgeschichte eines Standes in Spätmittelalter und Früher Neuzeit

This interdisciplinary investigation undertakes the first comprehensive analysis of rules for the behaviour of widowed readers laid down in widows’ annals, tracts, prayer books, and sermons. A multitude of hitherto undiscovered documents, pictures, and self-portraits furnish information on widows’ living conditions – their places of residence, occupations, charities, and pensions – with particular reference to Nuremberg.
