This study outlines the deep impact, hitherto overlooked, of historical philological scholarship on Nietzsche's thought. These new insights have consequences not only for current research into Nietzsche, but also for the history of scholarship, the theory of interpretation as well as for a redefinition of literary studies in the spirit of sceptical philology.
