Legal bases and concrete measures are illustrated, and their effects on the energy supply companies and competition clarified. Various regulation approaches and current developments in addition are explained in this area. Since the behaviour and the market appearance of the energy supply companies have changed also in the international environment since 1998, particularly these changes are shown and their influence on e.g. prices of energy, quality and customer management are examined. The work arrives at the conclusion that competition has increased strongly on the electricity market since 1998, while the gas market exists without relevant competition until today. The enterprises have, however, restructured themselves considerably since then, and another increase in competition has to be expected. [...]
